Experience a taste of Merredin’s Military Sites!

2.00pm - Departing Central Wheatbelt Visitor Centre
Discover Australia’s secondary World War I and II sites in this 2.5 hour bus tour. As we wind through the district, visit the following:
- RAAF hangars
- 2/1st Australian General Hospital
- RAAF Nokanning Bomb - Storage Site
- Various bunkers
- Nungarin Museum; and
- Former Military Fuel Installation sites.

10.00am - Merredin Railway Museum
The Merredin Railway Museum will be opening their doors to visitors all weekend, as part of a year’s festivities celebrating 150 years of the steam train. At 10am, Saturday 25 September, meet Philippa Rogers, President of Rail Heritage WA and author of Troops, Trains and Trades, who will give her insight into the rich tapestry of WA’s history and Merredin’s unique involvement in this.
Discover the museum and arts centre which displays the 1897 locomotive that hauled the Kalgoorlie Express, along with the old signal box with its array of 95 switching and signal levers. You can also see the early history of the Merredin area including the Pioneer Women’s Room and Memorial Rose Garden. Alternatively ask one of the helpful museum volunteers about their self-guided tours which will have you further exploring our historic town and its surrounds.
